Thursday, May 9th, 2013 - Day 2

Biology 11 - Period 6
  • Intro to mosses today.
  • Please keep caught up with your project.  You should have completed the Green Algae requirements and be getting started with the moss.
  • Consider going to a park to take pictures of plants.  This will give you plenty of time to identify them.
  • I will be tracking your progress next week.
  • On Thursday you will write an Algae/Moss quiz and will be able to use any material you have gathered for your project.
  • Please open the project page (on the left side of this page) to find any notes or handouts.

  • Intro to mosses today.
  • You should be finished the algae content.
  • Consider going to Central Park this weekend and collecting some plants.

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013 - Day 2

Biology 11 - Period 6
  • Intro to the phylum chlorophyta (green algae).  
  • We also planted some seeds which will hopefully germinate ASAP.  Don't forget to check on your plants each class and record your observations in your plant growth journal.
  • Volvox slides will be available next class, but I think everyone had a chance to look at them today.
  • You should be working on the Green Algae content for your project.  This should be close to complete for next class.
  • Release day for our Painted Lady butterflies today.  Good luck Oliver, Grimes, Kobe and friends.

  • Oceanography test today.  I hope everyone did well.

Biology 12 - Periods 1 and 4

  • Review of events at the synapse today, plus a brief look at summation.
  • Assigned worksheet will be checked, so finish it sooner rather than later.

  • Also gave a brief introduction to the plant kingdom and discussed the evolution of plants.

  • Review today for your upcoming Oceanography test.
Biology 12 - Period 8
  • Finished up the synapse today.  Summation and an animation.
  • You should have finished the worksheets you received today.

Biology 12 - Periods 1 and 4

  • Finished up the material for transmission of a nerve impulse within a neuron.  Topics today included threshold and saltatory conduction.
  • Next topic was transmission of a nerve impulse between two neurons.  The region known as the synapse.
Biology 11 - Periods 2 and 3
  • Fungus quiz today.  I hope everyone was prepared and did well.

Earth Science 11 - Period 7
  • Ocean currents today.  
  • New questions assigned today from page 347 #1-6.
  • We have completed our study of the oceans, which means you will be writing a test next week (most likely Tuesday).
Biology 12 - Period 8
  • Finished up transmission of a nerve impulse within a SINGLE neuron.
  • New topics included threshold and saltatory conduction.
  • Also learned about the transmission of a nerve impulse BETWEEN neurons.  
  • Looked in detail at the region known as a synapse.
